Competencies & Skills

Sustainable Employment through Increased Employability

This program assists individuals in acquiring the competencies and skills required for a given job or receiving training that leads to a form of accreditation.

If you want to be on top of your game you need to continuously work on your skills.

The Competencies and Skills program helps participants do just that. By funding most aspects of accredited training programs and apprenticeships – and providing training allowances –  Cree workers will have the opportunity to increase their employability and secure meaningful and sustainable employment.

Organizations & Individuals

The Competencies and Skills program aims to support workforce development that leads to meaningful and sustainable employment in Eeyou Istchee.

ASD will assist organizations and individuals by covering expenses for professional training activities, including:

  • Tuition for accredited training programs
  • Safety- and specialized-equipment
  • Lodging and childcare
  • Travel expenses

ASD will also provide training allowances for eligible participants on a graduated scale.

Cree Workers

If you are planning to improve your employability and gain more knowledge about your chosen field, the Competencies and Skills program is for you!

ASD wants to help you get the accredited training you need to excel in your chosen career. Whether that’s going back to school or completing your apprenticeship, ASD will support you so that you can focus on developing the skills and knowledge you need to become the best worker you can be.

We will assist you by covering the costs of tuition and learning materials, as well as travel, lodging and childcare. More importantly, ASD will provide a training allowance that will let you focus on your training and treat it like your full-time job.
