Job Description
TITLE: VICE-PRESIDENT, ENVIRONMENT
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the COO, the Vice-President Environment, through senior managers in his sector, plans, organizes, controls, and evaluates the environment at the company’s sites and projects. He plays a leadership role in ensuring that the company meets its environmental compliance obligations, as well as the principles and commitments of the Sustainable Development sector. He also works closely with other department’s heads to minimize the environmental impacts on the organization’s current and future activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads, mentors, and supports his team fostering a high-performance culture.
- Ensures that Sayona’s vision is realized through excellence in execution.
- Is part of Sayona’s senior management staff and works in an interdisciplinary manner with peers in other departments.
- Designs, implements, and monitors all operations and key performance metrics/operational effectiveness for environmental teams across all sites/projects.
- Develops lines of intervention, action plans and policies related to environmental challenges and issues, all in accordance with the laws and regulations in force, then sees to their application.
- Advises Executive Vice-Presidents by making recommendations on environmental aspects.
- Recommends new technologies and ideas to improve efficiency.
- Builds, develops and manages senior managers of environmental departments. He enables a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and excellence, while continuously improving the quality and caliber of environmental departments.
- Creates, manages and measures KPIs in its sector.
- Ensures that environment departments achieve project objectives and completion within budgets and deadlines.
- Authorizes and organizes the establishment of key units of the organization and the establishment of related senior-level positions.
- Allocates material, human, and financial resources for the implementation of programs, establishes related administrative and financial controls, approves promotional campaigns andthe overall Sayona-wide environmental management plan.
- Conducts environmental impact studies.
- Establishes team objectives and deals with personnel management in his department.
- Ensures that inspection/audit and risk management processes are followed and collaborates with his teams in the implementation of corrective and preventive actions as well as adequate control measures.
- Analyzes the performance of his sector and requires recommendations from subordinates.
- Develops various programs, processes and tools according to the growth and needs of the organization.
- Supports his teams in the application of environmental requirements.
- Ensures knowledge of regulations and best practices in the industry in order to effectively respond to internal and external customer requests.
- Represents the organization, or delegates representatives, to act on behalf of the organization in negotiations or other official duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science (Environmental Engineering), Biology, Geology, Water Engineering, other).
- Master’s degree in mining environment is an asset.
- 15 years of experience in the environment, ideally in the mining industry.
- 10 years of experience in a management position.
- Mastery of the environmental regulatory framework governing mining activities or mining projects.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience in obtaining permits, BAPE and environmental studies in an important asset.
- Solid practice experience with the various methods of risk analysis applied in the environment.
- Be available to travel to sites or projects as needed.
- Bilingualism (French, English).
