Work at CBC/Radio-Canada
At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.
Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever-changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

Your role

We are seeking a TV Production Assistant to contribute to Maamuitaau, a weekly current affairs television program produced in the James Bay Cree language and broadcast on CBC TV in Quebec and CBC North.

You are a creative thinker who is organized and likes to work collaboratively.  You will work as part of a team along with the producer and journalists of Maamuitaau to produce programming that is informative and relevant to Cree people. A fluent Cree speaker, you follow news and current events that impact the people of Eeyou Istchee and developments in Indigenous communities across Quebec. You like to learn new skills and are interested in broadcast journalism and storytelling.

The Maamuitaau team is based at the Maison Radio-Canada in Montreal. On occasion, the successful candidate may be assigned to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and may be asked to travel to Cree communities.

Duties:

  • Assist and fill in, upon request, for the producer at different stages of the production (shooting, finding locations, editing, mixing, selecting music, broadcasting). Be delegated to direct the sub-control room (shot-listing for isolated cameras, audio and visual material for screens)
  • Attend meetings and help determine production needs. Handle logistics while respecting the producer’s requests (drawing up production schedules; booking resources). Prepare the production log in whole or in part. May be asked to monitor production expenditures
  • Locate and select audio and visual material from various sources. Obtain the material in keeping with authorized parameters. Obtain shot lists and notes and transfer them to a digital support
  • Act as a liaison between CBC/Radio-Canada departments and the production team
  • View, verify and time program segments, reports and transmissions. Identify any problems with quality. Note the required information (length, start and end of supers, identification of cassettes, sensitive content). Isolate and identify reports, excerpts and visuals. Assemble excerpts and visuals
  • Carry out all other related tasks as needed
