3. Description
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
Person who assesses speech, language and voice functions and establishes and implements a treatment and intervention plan aimed at improving or restoring communication. She/he participates in clinical teaching.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
Assess and treat speech, language, swallowing and voice functions in the 0-100 year-old population within the Cree territory of Eeyou-Istchee. Clinical skills in the following areas are considered an asset;
- Language delay/disorder (multilingual context)
- Developmental disorders
- Craniofacial
- Stroke
- Dysphagia
- AAC
Provide coverage for several communities within Eeyou-Istchee;
Work in collaboration with community partners (daycare workers, community health representatives, special needs educators, rehabilitation workers) and health professionals in order to provide culturally adapted best care for clients;.
Coach and train community members and healthcare professionals on prevention and promotion within speech-language therapy.
Nature of the two positions to be filled:
Regional position based in Eeyou Istchee or in Montreal (Location flexible). This position requires extensive travel.
Position based in Waskaganish (Covering Eastmain and Nemaska as well)
- To provide speech-language service coverage for the three communities.
4. Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology;
- Member of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ);
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience;
- Experience in a remote area as asset;
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Experience working with interpreters and capacity to derive standard deviations and tests results from an assessment of Cree language skills;
- Good knowledge SLP theory and practice, current trends, and the MSSS Network and regulations;
- Varied clinical skills;
- Ability to communicate theoretical and practical knowledge as applied to coaching and training;
- Knowledge of Cree culture and language and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
- Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
- Experience with First nation or with cross-cultural work is an asset;
- Ability in office computer applications;
- Good professional record in SLP;
- Excellent interpersonal and listening communication, and teamwork skills;
- Excellent critical thinking, synthesis, organizational and decision-making skills;
- High adaptability capacity;
Language:
- Fluent in English;
- Fluency in Cree is an asset;
Other:
- Willing to travel extensively.
5. Salary information
Salary (Hourly) Minimum: $25.25
Salary (Hourly) Maximum: $45.22
