Human Resources – Human Resources Specialist
Core Functions:
The Human Resource Specialist is responsible for providing support with outreach and employment activities which support the Cree Nation Governments increasing staffing needs.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Assist with the recruitment and outreach strategies, programs and initiatives to recruit / select / retain high quality candidates.
- Create a list of contacts to support outreach activities.
- Provide administrative and analytical support to the recruitment team and research retention strategy.
- Assist with the outreach, employment and retention strategy to assist in increasing the employment of Cree beneficiaries, across all classifications.
- Contribute to the identification of staffing needs of the Cree Nation Government.
- Create list of networking contacts to communicate with for staffing needs.
- Develop and maintain webpages, social media and other materials related to outreach activities.
- Support the Manager of Recruitment and Development with the preparation of new job descriptions.
- Research and create a listing of the types of assessment tests available on the market.
- Provide support to the Manager of Recruitment and Development in the reviewing issue of issue sheets.
- Administer the summer student program and identify opportunities for internships within the Cree Nation Government’s departments.
- Provide support and orientation for the onboarding of new hires.
- Prepare contracts for casual employees.
Interaction/Communication Responsibilities:
- Foster working relationships with the Cree School Board and post-secondary institutions.
- Participate in external recruitment functions including but not limited to job and career fairs (universities, Cree School Board, Apatisiiwin Skills Development, etc.).
- Manage relationship with recruitment agencies to source potential candidates.
- Foster working relationships with the Cree School Board and post-secondary institutions.
- Work in collaboration with the communication team to develop and create different outreach tools such as: videos, posters, social media messages, etc., to promote Cree Nation Government.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with managers, establish a recall list for short-term replacements.
- Track and follow up on replacement contracts and renewals.
- Ensure background checks for recall list are up to date and documented in the employee file.
Reporting Responsibilities:
- Prepare reports and participate in drafting the human resources annual report
- Compile reports by entering data in the human resources spreadsheets databases.
- Maintain an efficient and effective electronic and manual filing system.
- Perform file audits to ensure that all required employee documentation is collected and maintained.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education:
- University Certificate in Administration, Human Resources, Communications or related field.
Experience:
- Three to five years of relevant work experience.
Language:
- Fluency in English.
- Fluency in verbal Cree and French.
Knowledge/Abilities:
- Customer-focused and service-oriented.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively.
- Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven organizational skills.
- Strong judgment and proven ability to problem-solve.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Additional Requirements:
- Typical office setting where there are no unusual physical demands.
- Willingness to travel regularly.

Pay Type: Salary
Min. Hiring Rate: $52,654.00
Max. Hiring Rate: $770,294.00
