ENVIRONMENTAL ASSISTANT TECHNICIAN

Northern Mining Services is a company working in Northern Quebec on the Troilus Gold exploration project. NMS is looking for a candidate to fill the position of Environmental Assistant Technician. The work schedule is 8 – 6 and the candidate will be housed and fed on the exploration site.

Main Duties:

• Support all environmental work performed in-house as well as that performed by subcontracted personnel;
• Participate in planned restoration work;
• Follow up and maintain the pumping stations;
• Apply procedures in case of planned or unplanned power outages when the situation requires it;
• Operate the water treatment plant;
• Calibration and use of measuring equipment for environmental work;
• Ensure the sampling program established by the environmental coordinator;
• Maintain a clean and safe workplace and notify supervisor of any equipment breakdowns;
• Collaborate and communicate with camp coordinators in the execution of tasks when needed;
• Perform any other tasks in collaboration with the various departments.

Daily Tasks:

• Manage water levels in the tailings pond and polishing pond and take water quality readings at control points.
• Maintain up-to-date records.
• Conduct environmental infrastructure tours.

Periodic Tasks:

• Inspection of the wastewater facilities.
• Ensure environmental and mechanical follow-up programs.
• Support for physical and biological inventories and field campaigns.

Qualifications:

• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Good knowledge of field work.
• Good capacity for manual and outdoor work.
• No experience required.

Competencies:

• Resourcefulness.
• Good organizational skills.
• Teamwork in a multicultural environment.
• Good knowledge of Office 365 (Word, Excel) is an asset.
• Bilingualism is an asset
