SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who participate in the identification of the needs of the population participate in the community organization & development and execute different action programs by using appropriate techniques, may act as a resource person for the groups.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
This position is about helping young people to fulfill their potential to live a balanced and enriched life in accordance with their cultural values and identities. This would include working directly with youth in a safe space based at the Youth Center to help them figure out their goals, find resources to help them grow and to support and accompany them on their life journey. Through the work, it would mean promoting; bring awareness to a holistic healthy lifestyle and prevention of mental health. This position will entail collaboration with local entities. Under the supervision of and in collaboration with community of Waswanipi, the Eenou Youth life coach will:
- Teach useful emotional and behavioral regulation techniques
- Collaborate with young people to develop action plans that focuses on the actualization of their stated ambitions
- Collaborate with clinical activity specialist and PPRO to develop OSP content
- Collaborate with community partners to ensure positive working relationships and growth of youth population
- Evaluate young people’s advancements toward goals
- Encourage continued and sustainable progress
- Gather data from the youth population and identifies emerging themes of where support is needed
- Engaging with young people in order to provide quality services align with OSP mandates
- Provide workshops and activities to promote wellbeing and coping through the coaching
- Elaborate and create activities and opportunities in the community as well as outside of the community
- Support youth in different youth setting (Youth center, Clinic, Schools, land-based activities, etc.)
- Participate and be present to community events and partners’ functions
- Adhere to policy and legislation with respect to conduct, confidentiality and the duty to report.
- Performs other job-related duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as required for this experimental project.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Must have a CEGEP diploma with a core concentration in techniques of social worker or a CEGEP certificate in social techniques or social counseling techniques;
- Completed Charlie Training or is willing to follow the training;
- Completed PCFI Training or is willing to follow the training.
Experience:
- Three years of pertinent experience working with youth in youth friendly settings (psychosocial).
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Be available and motivated to develop skills through training, needed to perform some of the specific functions listed here and other relevant training topics;
- Excellent active listening skills;
- Understand behavioral motivation;
- Understand Cree culture;
- Excellent critical thinking skills;
- Knowledgeable about community resources;
- Good planning and organization skills;
- Be proactive, inclusive and a multidisciplinary approach;
- Must take initiatives and be autonomous;
- Great communications skills required;
- Positive leadership;
- Great interpersonal relationship skills;
LANGUAGE
- Fluent in Cree and English;
- Fluency in French is an asset.
OTHER
- Valid driver’s license would be an asset;
- Flexible schedule: includes day/evening and weekends and possible on-call periods.
