Stornoway is recruiting for a Drilling and Blasting Technician or CEP for the underground mine.  Reporting to the Drilling and Blasting Coordinator, the Drilling and Blasting candidate is responsible for the design of production drilling plans, loading plans, shooting sequences, monitoring and quality control of drilling and loading operations in the field. The mining of ore is done by long holes of large diameters. Working closely with the production department, he will have to provide the necessary technical support to ensure the smooth running of drilling and explosives loading operations.


Your role:

  • Designing production site drilling plans, loading plans and firing sequence plans;
  • Provide the necessary technical support to ensure the proper functioning of drilling and explosive loading operations;
  • Perform underground quality control during drilling and loading operations;
  • Perform daily monitoring of drilling and production blasting operations;
  • Participate in various optimization projects related to drilling and production blasting;
  • Conduct the processing and analysis of data related to drilling and production blasting.


Qualifications :

  • DEC in mineral technology, bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or any other training with equivalent experience in drilling and blasting;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in underground mining;
  • Knowledge of software such as Deswik, Autocad, Promine, or other similar software;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
  • Hold the Mining Worker’s Modular Training (1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5 and 7);
  • Hold a valid general explosives permit;
  • Hold a valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent ability to plan, organize, execute and analyze;
  • Versatility, autonomy, resourcefulness and flexibility in tasks;
  • Interests and skills to work in a multicultural work environment;
  • Exemplary attitude towards health and safety at all times;
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and French.
