SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications, the incumbent ensures the organization, coordination, implementation, control and reporting of Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB) communications programs, services and activities related to the development of digital platform and digital media as well as takes the lead in major communication related organizational projects.
Operating at both the regional and multi-establishments levels, the incumbent oversees the activities related to internal and external communications, information dissemination, public relations, publications and support to managers for their communications needs.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
- Be constantly on the lookout for the latest digital trends and best practices.
- Ensures the operational planning, organization, coordination, implementation, control and reporting of communications, according to the CBHSSJB communication approach and policies.
- Collaborates closely with the Coordinator – Expertise and Advice in the planning and organization of Communication activities.
- Ensures a close collaboration with the Coordinator – Expertise and Advice and their team in carrying out their activities.
- Provides advice, support and training to the management and staff for their communication needs.
- Contributes to the strategic and tactical planning of corporate communications of the CBHSSJB.
- Advises the Director of Communication on strategies and initiatives to develop for continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Responds to the organization’s communications and information needs, and collaborates on communication strategies and activities by establishing close collaborations with the various partners in Eeyou Istchee and the MSSS network. He/she ensures the reception and dissemination of information between various external and internal sources.
- Contributes to the development, creation and implementation of new internal communication strategies
- Motivates the sense of belonging of his/her team and fosters collaboration.
- Ensures the searching, receiving and acquisition of various types of information from various external sources, and the dissemination of such to the relevant parties throughout the organization, other organizations and to the public.
- Collaborates in the development of procedures for information dispersal in emergency situations (i.e. fires, pandemics). Ensures his/her role according to such procedures.
- Contributes to the elaboration of policies and procedures pertaining to the Direction of Communications.
- Ensures the CBHSSJB image and branding are consistent and reflects the vision and reality of the organization.
- Coordinates the development, operation, design, up-date of the CBHSSJB web site and intranet in collaboration with various resources.
- Collaborates to the production and coordinates the design of various publications (internal and external) including the Newsletter, brochures, posters, advertisement, etc.
- Contributes to the development of Social Media Strategies to enhance the CBHSSJB’s presence.
- Plans, in collaboration with the Coordinator – Expertise and Advice, the programing content of the Health Show and public service announcements.
- Plans and coordinates the video productions as well as the Live Streaming events.
- Ensures the organization’s image bank is up to date and images representing Cree communities and culture are renewed regularly.
- Collaborates to the development of new digital initiatives.
- Oversees the supervision of consultants, when needed.
- Advises and supports management and staff for their communication projects.
- Ensures links with the various directorates of the CBHSSJB for the smooth functioning of communications throughout the organization.
- Collaborates to the production of the Annual Report and other Board level reports.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in communications;
- A master’s degree in a field related to communications is an asset;
- Studies in journalism, creation media marketing would be an asset;
- At least five (5) years’ experience in a management position in the field of communications.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both listening, written and presentation.
- Excellent knowledge of communications strategies on digital platforms and medias.
- Attention to detail, sense of organization and ability to prioritize multiple files.
- Experience with partners and political bodies.
- In-depth understanding and familiarity with the challenges of the health and social services sector.
- In-depth understanding and familiarity with the challenges of the francophone, anglophone, and Indigenous communities.
- Thorough understanding of relations with public and political bodies, as well as local and provincial.
- Good command of social networks such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Ability to effectively manage a staff/functional management in a line-staff organization.
- Knowledge of, or ability to grasp the issues and context that relate to First Nation health and social services programming.
- Excellent critical thinking, synthesis, decision-making, planning and organizational skills.
- Results-oriented, autonomous, flexible, and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, and respectful leadership and teamwork skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with all colleagues, as a team member and team leader.
LANGUAGE
- Fluent in English;
- Fluency in Cree or in French is an asset.
OTHER
- This position may involve after-hours and weekend work, as needed.
