HOURLY SALARY: Min. (1) $24.78 – Max. (12) $35.67
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The person will participate in the identification of the needs of the population and participate in the community organization & development and execute different action programs by using appropriate techniques, may act as a resources person for the groups.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
- Intervene with people or groups of people who encounter social problems (mentally handicapped, drug addiction, integration problems, children abuse, suicide, etc.);
- Respond to crisis situations with people in distress;
- Use different methods, approaches and techniques (individual interview, group facilitation, social activities, etc.) to intervene effectively with the clients and their family;
- Receive and assess service requests from individual users or groups, and refer them to the appropriate programs, services or resources (ex: CMC Community worker, youth protection, NNADAP worker and other medical Social Services staff and other organisms within and outside the community);
- Work in close collaboration with social workers of the hospital for the departments of: emergency, medicine and hemodialysis but also for collaborative projects with the CMC;
- Participate in the intervention plans;
- Establish relationship with other organisms such as the band office, Youth council, etc.;
- Perform all other related tasks as required.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Diploma of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques or another appropriate specialization from a school recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport;
- This job title also includes those who, after acquiring relevant experience, have a certificate of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques;
- Applicants with an attestation of college studies in Educators in Native Childcare Services or Special Needs Education aboriginal and Inuit children may be considered.
- Completed the Charlie Training or is willing to follow the training.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Cree culture and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
- Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
- Ability to communicate with people, to run interviews and to establish and maintain a helping relationship with the users;
- Ability to build trust relationship with partners and patients;
- Skills in counseling and knowledge or willing to learn the laws: Y.O.A., Y.P.A., L.H.S.S.S;
- Excellent teamwork skills and ability to work in collaboration with CMC Community worker, youth protection, police, NNADAP worker and other medical Social Services staff and other organisms within and outside the community;
- Good capacity for stress management and crisis management;
- Interest and ability for paperwork and written reports;
- Empathetic and understanding of families and human relations;
- Initiative, dynamism and sense of responsibility;
- Excellent interpersonal and listening communication skills;
- Autonomous, flexible and discrete
LANGUAGE:
- Fluent in Cree and English;
- Fluency in French is an asset.
OTHER:
- Must be available to work occasionally outside the regular working hours;
- Possibility of on-call periods.
