SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who does the identification and analysis of the needs of the population with concerned groups. She/he designs, coordinates and updates community organization programs to meet the needs of the community and promote its development. She/he acts as a resource person for the groups.
- Develop a portrait of the community – its strengths and assets, including a list of all of the services offered to families and share it with the partners to improve their knowledge of the services in place in the community;
- Find ways to reach out to families to collect information on their needs but also to explain to the community what are the services and programs offered in collaboration with the CMC team;
- Inform colleagues within the CMC of family-oriented activities in the community;
- Meet with representatives of organizations and services in the community to develop a committee to work on improving services for families;
- Agree with the partners on a mandate, goals, ways to operate and commitment level expected from them, as members of the team;
- Develop an action plan to meet the needs expressed by families;
- Coordinate the actions in the plan, and work with partners to evaluate and review the plan regularly;
- Keep partners involved and informed throughout the phases of the action plan, even in periods that are less active, in order to sustain their interest.
- Encourage colleagues from the CMC and community partners (representatives of community organizations and services) to sit together in order to improve services for families in the community;
- If partners decide to formalize their existence by creating a non-profit organization to work on family issues in the community, support the process of incorporation;
- Invite partners to take part in training activities offered within the CMC when applicable;
- Act as leader in meetings of the committee and prepare minutes and reports;
- Participate actively in meetings of the CMC team and collaborate regularly to take their input;
- Carries out other tasks usually assigned to a Community Organizer upon the request of her/his supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor degree in human or social sciences such as social work, psychoeducation or psychology.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience mainly in group monitoring and in project coordination achieved in partnership or in community organization;
- Work experience with community concertation tables.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of community-based services related to families and their children living in a vulnerable context;
- Knowledge of social/health issues and impacts of historic events in Eeyou Istchee;
- Knowledge of group care
- Understanding of families and human relations
- Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
- Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills;
- Excellent critical thinking, synthesis, organizational and decision-making skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and listening communication skills
- Autonomous, flexible and flexible discrete and empathetic
- Oral, written and interpersonal communication and listening skills;
- Sense of creativity, solution-oriented and dynamism.
Language
- Fluent in English and in Cree;
- Fluent in French is an asset.
