We are seeking applicants to fill the position of Community Literacy Worker in all nine communities in Eeyou Istchee.

Literacy Workers work to promote a love of reading and learning, as well as increased self-confidence of children of 5 through 12.

 

Requirements

All candidates are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet all the following requirements:

• Be mature, punctual, responsible, and able to work with little supervision
• Enjoy working with young children. Previous experience is a bonus.
• Experience or interest in the fields of education, teaching or community programming
• Ability to work well in a team
• Be familiar with local leaders, culture and activities in the community
• Live in or come from Eeyou Istchee

Job Responsibilities

Successful candidates will work as a team to run literacy activities in the community. They will hold various learning activities such as reading circles, book giveaways, writing contests and story telling sessions.

Community Literacy Workers will also promote community involvement by inviting parents, elders, and other community members to participate. Some administrative work will be required.

 

Salary and Terms of Employment

Title: Community Literacy Worker

Salary: 20$/h

Contract: 8 Weeks, Summer 2021
