Job Description
Department: Commerce and Industry (DCI)
Report to: Manager of Strategic Development Initiatives
Status: Contract – Summer Student
Location: Mistissini

Core Functions:
The Business Services Assistant will work with the Business Services Officer to assist in business development activities. The incumbent would be working with DCI Staff to develop programming geared towards assisting entrepreneurs and business start-ups. To assist with promotion of the business center, registration of businesses and support for initiatives related to Consumer issues and Entrepreneurs.
Functional Responsibilities:
•Perform research that will assist in the set-up of the DCI Business Center.
•Contribute to the development of programs and services for the business hub.
•Inform clients about available assistance, programs, and grants for small businesses.
•Provide clients with information related to types of businesses, business costs and ratios.
•Work collaboratively with the team to develop promotional materials and to promote the Business Hub.
•Assist in data collection, surveys and other business and commerce information.
•Provide assistance with the maintenance of business files and program applications.
•Assist the DCI team with the creation of community profiles, demographic data, and the business directory.
Functional Responsibilities:
•Research and analyze all information to determine the sustainability and viability of potential projects and present findings for recommendation to the appropriate body.
•Research and facilitate training programs as identified and requested by entrepreneurs.
•Research and ensure adequate after-care support services as identified and requested by entrepreneurs.
•Work collaboratively in the development and implementation of a personal professional development plan to use with Cree entrepreneurs.
•Assist in drafting, reviewing, or revising Business Hub documentation.
•Participation in the improvement of information contained within the Business Hub
•Work with partners organizations and stakeholders to gather information for the department.
•Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Education:
•College/University Diploma (student in process returning to school in September) inCommerce, Community Development, Business Administration/Studies or a related field.
Experience:
•One to three years of relevant work experience.
Language:
•Fluency in verbal Cree.
•Fluency in English.
•Fluency in French is an asset.
Knowledge and Abilities:
•Customer-focused and service-oriented.
•Proven ability to communicate effectively, including carrying out public presentations.
•Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
•Good attention to detail and accuracy.
•Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multi tasks and respect deadlines.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Additional Requirements:
•Typical office setting where there are no unusual physical demands.
•Willingness to travel frequently.
