OPEN POSITION: Arts Consultant

LOCATION OF WORK: Office of the Deputy Director General – Pedagogy Mistissini, Quebec

 

NATURE OF WORK

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director General of Pedagogy, the Arts Consultant is a new position created first and foremost to support the Mikw Chiyam program which has already been implemented in our nine secondary schools. In this context, the Arts Consultant will support different stakeholders (artists in residence, teachers, consultants, etc.) as well as develop a sustainability plan for the program in collaboration with School Operations and inPath (external supplier).

Mikw Chiyam is a student-centred learning program developed in collaboration with inPath consultants. Using arts to create alternative learning spaces, it promotes retention and graduation rates, but also aims to increase student engagement towards school and, eventually, towards their community.

In addition to Mikw Chiyam, this position will support Arts programming overall in the board and work in collaboration with School Operations, Education Services, and other external partners to enrich Arts programming in the Cree School Board at both the secondary and elementary levels.

 

CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS

Overall, the Arts Consultant collaborates in the successful completion of the education project and of Cree School Board’s specific projects; participates in the elaboration, implementation and evaluation of their plan for success, while respecting educational and administrative frameworks.

More specifically, the Arts Consultant aims to increase Cree School Board’s ownership over key aspects of the Mikw Chiyam Program to ensure sustainability of the Program over time.

Builds a sustainability plan for the program in collaboration with School Operations and inPath consultants.

Advises and supports teachers on an individual and collective basis through school visits and other appropriate mechanisms; assists in the training and
development of artists in residence, as well as teachers of the program.

Supports other Arts activities or programming in the schools.

Participates with a multidisciplinary team in the elaboration and review of intervention plans as needed.

Advises school stakeholders on integration methods of the Mikw Chiyam program and ensures efficient liaison with inPath external consultants; collaborates in the successful completion of such projects; facilitates training and information workshops on varied elements of the program.

Collaborates with stakeholders within the Board, community schools, inPath, other partner organizations, and the Ministère de l’Éducation, et de
l’Enseignement superieur.

Evaluates results of the program and work with School Operations and inPath to continuously improve and adapt the program to the needs of our communities.

Promotes the field of Arts and assists in the development of student portfolios.

Assists with the annual Cree School Board Art Show, Mikw Chiyam Art Shows, festivals, and other events related to Arts for students.

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty, notably education. A specialization in arts or intervention through arts is an asset.

A permanent teaching permit issued by the Minister of Education of Quebec (Brevet).

Minimum of five years’ experience as a teacher or as an education consultant.

Experience with arts curriculums or arts-based programs in academic or intervention settings is highly desired.

Must demonstrate strong teaching abilities, classroom management, methodology and knowledge of M.E.E.S. programs.

Fluency in English is required.

Knowledge of the Cree language and French are assets.

Availability to travel

 

BEGINNING OF EMPLOYMENT

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Regular Full-time

35 hours per week.

Salary: $25.25/hr – $45.22/hr

Northern Allowance: $8,484.00 – $13,573.00
