JOB TITLE: 2 FULL-TIME LINE COOK

JOB SUMMARY
Under the immediate supervision and direction of the General Manager but more specifically the Chef, the Line Cook (LC) is responsible to set up stations for menu and assist the Chef and Sous Chef with their daily tasks by organizing, preparing and cooking all assigned menu items and orders. The LC prepares and monitors the food according to the specifications, recipes and techniques of the restaurant while respecting the health and safety standards and regulations.
OVERVIEW OF MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of the restaurant;
- Inspect and open all kitchen equipment to ensure proper functioning;
- In collaboration with the kitchen staff; prepare and cook food for service according to the orders received;
- Check quality of ingredients before preparing food;
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking;
- Assist with the preparation of cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat etc.;
- Ensure food products are portioned before cooking by following standardized recipes;
- Ensure all food and other items are identified and stored properly;
- Ensure that food orders are completed as requested by customer and is ready simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion;
- Verify the quality, the quantity, the temperature and presentation of the food prior to expediting food for service;
- Communicate and act responsibly for the safety of co-workers in the kitchen;
- Constantly clean up and sanitize station and take care of leftover food;
- Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies in accordance to service;
- Prepare, change and set up for the switch from breakfast and lunch services;
- Label and store all prepped food in line fridges so they can be organized and easily accessible;
- Stock and monitor inventory appropriately;
- Make requisitions for food items and supplies that are low in stock or missing;
- Answer, report to and follow immediate supervisor’s instructions;
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers;
- Follow the line of communication from kitchen to dining room and ensure proper flow of service and update staff of any changes if needed;
- Assist with catering when needed;
- May assist with unload delivery truck as needed;
- May train and orient new colleagues Line Cooks employees when requested;
- Comply with hygiene, sanitation regulations and safety standards;
- Comply with dress code and wear hair nets, proper shoes, jacket, etc.;
- Comply with restaurant standard operating procedures;
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent is an asset
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a kitchen environment
- Culinary or professional cooking certificate and/or diploma is an asset
- MAPAQ: Food hygiene and Safety certificate
- Knowledge of basic food preparation
- Fluency in Cree and English, French is an asset
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
- Team player, good communication and listening skills
- Excellent understanding of various method of food preparation and cooking methods
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks but with diligence
- Able to follow all sanitation procedures
- Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils
- Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
- Very good physical condition and endurance
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
- Permanent Full-time
- 35 hrs per week
- 3-month probation period
- Benefits according to Miichiwaap HR policies and procedures
- Flexible working evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled
SALARY
- Grade 5: starting rate of $16.29/hr to a maximum of $24.07/hr based on qualifications and experience
