Community Profile
The Cree Nation of Eastmain is one of four Cree communities located on the eastern shore of James Bay near the south shore of the Eastmain River. With a population reaching nearly 800 people, the main economic activity of the community is the service sector. As a very dynamic community, Eastmain is looking to develop itself and diversify its activities in various domains. Committed to improving the lives of its community members, Eastmain is working on improving all the services currently offered to the population as well as implementing new services.

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Network Administrator is responsible for designing, maintaining, and monitoring the use of the network infrastructure and components. The incumbent is also responsible for providing computer hardware and software training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide recommendations concerning system design, infrastructure, and software.
  • Design and maintain the Cree Nation of Eastmain’s computer networks.
  • Install, configure support, and maintain hardware, software, and Internet systems, including the management of hubs, switches, routers, firewalls, web and email filters, and servers.
  • Implement network traffic and security monitoring hardware and software.
  • Coordinate access and use of computer network as well as remote access for employees and third parties.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and backup tasks on servers and equipment, such as software and hardware updates and upgrades.
  • Respond to end-users in need (troubleshoot) and determine the level of support required.
  • Create and monitor user email accounts.
  • Maintain and configure telecommunication equipment such as cellular phones and other devices.
  • Ensure proper access to hardware and software resources (MS Office, productivity software, shared files, printers, scanners, computers, phones, and business cellphones, etc.
  • Provide basic training and orientation for software, web safety and maintenance, printers, and scanners.
  • Provide technical support for meetings and conferences.
  • Perform needs assessments and conduct research into purchasing requirements. Purchase equipment based on guidelines.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment, licenses, software, hardware, and component parts. Make decisions regarding the reallocation and the disposal of equipment.

Requirements

  • College Diploma in Computer Sciences
  • Three to five years of relevant experience

*Any combination of experience and education will be considered. Compulsory training will be provided.

Qualification

  • Fluency in Cree and English
  • Fluency in French is an asset
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.

Working conditions

  • Permanent Full-Time
  • 35 hours per week
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Base salary: 54k-68k based on experience
