Community Profile
The Cree Nation of Eastmain is one of four Cree communities located on the eastern shore of James Bay near the south shore of the Eastmain River. With a population reaching nearly 800 people, the main economic activity of the community is the service sector. As a very dynamic community, Eastmain is looking to develop itself and diversify its activities in various domains. Committed to improving the lives of its community members, Eastmain is working on improving all the services currently offered to the population as well as implementing new services.

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Communications Officer is responsible for planning, developing, and monitoring internal and external communications for the Cree Nation of Eastmain. The incumbent oversees all related communication projects and initiatives to promote a positive image of the Cree Nation of Eastmain and of the services it offers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and develop comprehensive internal communication plans for the organization
  • Give recommendations on information flow mechanisms and media formats for ongoing employee communications
  • Is responsible for various internal publications and documents, such as employee newsletters, brochures, and Intranet content
  • Assist the Directors in communicating programs and initiatives in a way that will foster employee satisfaction and commitment levels
  • Define communication approaches for the community to inform members of objectives and initiatives set out by the Cree Nation of Eastmain as well as their impact on the community
  • Develop and execute communications plans for the Cree Nation of Eastmain as part of an overall program or in support of a particular service or initiative, such as writing news articles,
    press releases, advertisements, messages, presentations, and radio shows
  • Advertise services, internally and externally through publicity material, demonstrations and/or social media platforms
  • Ensure that the Cree Nation of Eastmain’s website is maintained and updated regularly
  • Assist in releasing information to attract public attention to all aspects of the Cree Nation of Eastmain.
  • Provide regular updates on the department’s social media.
  • Perform other related tasks as required by the Director of Information of Technology

Requirements

  • A university degree/college diploma in the field of public relations, communications, journalism, or a discipline to the position
  • Three to five years of relevant experience

*Any combination of experience and education will be considered. Compulsory training will be provided.

Qualification

  • Fluency in Cree and English
  • Written knowledge of English
  • Fluency in French is an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to proofread effectively
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan and implement change initiatives
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a changing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Working conditions

  • Permanent Full-Time
  • 35 hours per week
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Base salary: 65k-81k based on experience
